A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between 每日大赛网址首页进入 鈥 Sugar Palm Research Information and Trade (CvSU-SPRINT) Center and South Seven Livestock Corporation (SSLC) was signed on March 20, 2024, at the University Board Room, CvSU 鈥 Don Severino de las Alas Campus.

The MOA signing marks a strengthened partnership of both parties toward a unified purpose of managing and maximizing the potential economic and ecological use of sugar palms.

During the signing, the CvSU and SPRINT Center were represented by For. Junser P. Magpantay, director of SPRINT Center; and Dr. Almira G. Magcawas, director of Extension Services Unit. SSLC, the other party, was represented by Mrs. Rizalina Oposa, managing director; Mr. Arthuro Tolentino, general manager; Ms. Ma. Lea Anarna, farm manager; and Ms. Mariz A. Matel.

Since 2010, SSLC has been a staunch partner of SPRINT Center in attaining its goal for a sustainable sugar palm industry. A 2-hectare portion of SSLC鈥檚 privately owned farm named Queentown Farm, situated in Sitio Portugal, Brgy. Indang, Cavite, is devoted to a sugar palm plantation. The 每日大赛网址首页进入 (CvSU) through the Gender and Development Resource Center (GADRC) conducted a webinar titled 鈥淐hild Labor: Protect Children from Child Labor, Now More than Ever,鈥 June 8, via video conferencing and Facebook Live.

This webinar aims to raise awareness about sexual abuse and exploitation, focusing on Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials (CSAEM), Online Sexual Exploitation of Children (OSEC), and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC).

College of Engineering and Information Technology Dean Dr. Willie C. Buclatin delivered the opening message, expressing hope that the webinar would shed light on the current issues of child labor which affects children鈥檚 physical and mental development, depriving them of their youth.

 

 

RIACAT-VAWC IV-A Project Development Officer III and Secretariat Mr. Ray Andrew P. Villafuerte discussed CSEC which occurs when individuals under the age of 18 engage in or are forced into prostitution and pornography in exchange for money or material payment. Meanwhile, Mr. Villafuerte defines OSEC as child sexual exploitation that is facilitated or occurs via the internet and other related media. He also shared the four main types of OSAEC which include grooming, livestreaming, consuming child sexual abuse material, and coercing and blackmailing children for sexual purposes.

DOLE Cavite Community Facilitator Ms. Dianne G. Digma presented 鈥淩evisiting Child labour-related laws and Policies on the Protection of Children.鈥 She mentioned that the Special Release on Working Children and the Situation of Child Labour (2019鈥2021) was published by the Philippine Statistics Authority on March 3, 2023.

Ms. Digma clarified the distinction between child labour which is hazardous work or exploitative, depriving rights to health and education, ongoing and for long periods of time, and prohibited; and child work, which is light work (when children learn to take responsibility), respects rights to health and education, and is occasionally permitted.

College of Criminal Justice Dean Dr. Famela Iza Cabe-Matic delivered the closing message in which she expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the GADRC headed by Dr. Susan G. Tan and to the speakers, hoping that everyone would learn from this webinar.

The Gender and Development Resource Center (GADRC) in partnership with Indang Association of Person with Disability, Inc. (IAPWDI) conducted 鈥淥rientation on Anti-Bullying鈥 held at the Babaylan Training Room, GAD Resource Center, May 18.

IAPWDI President Mr. Florian H. De Borja delivered the opening remarks where he expressed his appreciation to all the participants and to GAD Resource Center.

GADRC Director Dr. Susan G. Tan tackled the types of bullying, including physical, verbal, social, racial, sexual disability, and cyberbullying. She also discussed the effects of bullying among students and employees in their workplace. She emphasized that corrective or disciplinal action are not considered as a form of bullying.

Dr. Tan also discussed the penalties under the prohibitions on verbal, non-verbal ridicule and vilification against Persons with Disability of the R.A. 9442, an act amending R.A. 7277 otherwise known as the 鈥淢agna Carta for Person with Disability.鈥

Dr. Tan said that bullying is a sequence of actions and does not happen in a single event. She emphasized that giving respect to yourself and to others shows your worth as a person.

During the open forum, Mr. De Borja also shared that self-acceptance is one of the ways to be resilient in the face of criticism.

In partnership with the Gender and Development Resource Center (GADRC), the Indang Association of Person with Disability, Inc. (IAPWDI) conducted a seminar titled 鈥淐aring and How to Handle the Person with Down Syndrome鈥 on April 20, 2023, at the IAPWDI Office, Barangay IV, Indang, Cavite.

IAPWDI President Mr. Florian H. De Borja delivered the opening remarks, expressing his appreciation to all participants who attended the seminar.

IAPWDI member Ms. Soledad R. Ruedas served as the resource person, emphasizing the realities and misconceptions about Down syndrome and the medical intervention. She shared her journey with her daughter who has down syndrome.

Ms. Ruedas also delivered a poem titled “Welcome to Holland,” in which she reminisced her daughter’s childhood years. She recounted her daughter鈥檚 story and shared her experiences and the challenges she encountered in raising her daughter until she started studying.

As she conveyed her love for her daughter, she highlighted the necessity of guidance and support for a person with down syndrome, emphasizing that they have emotions and sentiments.

Mr. De Borja expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the speaker in this seminar.

The CALABARZON Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) led the way in recognizing women in various roles and their contributions to the region’s success and development during the 2023 Regional Women’s Month Celebration, March 31, at the Cultural Center of Laguna in Santa Cruz, Laguna.

This annual event emphasized this year’s theme, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” and subtheme, “Creating WE Opportunities in Science, Technology, and Innovation,” showcasing women and everyone in the disciplines of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI).

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) IV-A Assistant Regional Director Ms. Carmela P. Matabang imparted her welcoming message where she discussed how the government addresses different issues affecting women, particularly those who had been abused.

Province of Laguna Provincial Human Resource Management Officer Ms. Leah Teresa R. Javier expressed her gratitude for the momentous event while sharing her goal to build a society with equal rights and opportunities for women.

NEDA IV-A Secretary Mr. Marlon T. Natividad presented an overview of the forum and acknowledged the participants. In her keynote address, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region IV-A Assistant Regional Director for Finance and Administrative Services Ms. Lyn A. Fernandez acknowledged women who, despite obstacles, contribute to the advancement of science and technology. She also urged everyone to support women in science and technology in order to expand their prospects.

The event also held a talk show with successful women, including Laguna 2nd District Rep. Ruth Mariano-Hernandez, Dr. Eden C. Callo of Laguna State Polytechnic University, Ms. Leonie Reyes of Natures Dew Enterprise, and Dr. Patricia Sanchez of the University of the Philippines Los Ba帽os. They recounted their experiences overcoming difficulties and challenges, lessons that helped them achieve their present success, and knowledge that might benefit other women.

RGADC Co-Chairperson Ms. Josephine C. Parilla extended her appreciation to all the participants. She also led the turnover ceremony for the gathering’s next in-charge, from Laguna State Polytechnic University to Batangas State University.
