Brief History

The two-storey University Library started its operation in June 1980, with a collection of 2,946 volumes (consisting of 1,196 titles) turned over from the old high school library. After the books were catalogued,聽 the library finally opened its door to the users in November 1980. Since its opening, its collection has increased to 106,459 volumes (92,199 titles). It has acquired a total of 5,055 series titles (journals, newsletters, annual reports, newspapers, bulletins, popular magazines, etc.)

The present University library has been named Ladislao N. Diwa Memorial Library and Museum (LDMLM) since its launching on July 14, 1997, in recognition of the various contributions of Ladislao N. Diwa and his heirs to the library.

It operates using the OPEN SHELF SYSTEM.

General Rules

  1. Students are required to wear their valid I.D. and official uniform when entering the library except on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The library shall exempt students who belong to colleges that hold activities upon presentation of request letter signed by the College Dean.
  2. Student’s ID is required as access to the library. This card is non-transferable. Misrepresentation by showing someone else’s ID is an offense. Students caught doing such act may be deprived of their library privileges for a period of two weeks.
  3. A borrower’s cars is issued to all students upon presentation of their Registration Form (RF) and one (1) piece of 1×1 ID picture. The card must be validated every semester. Lost borrowers card can be replaced upon submission of an Affidavit of Loss and payment or P20.00 for the first offense and P30.00 for the second offense.
  4. Referral letter is issued to faculty and students of CvSU who wish to do research in other libraries with a fee of P5.00 per referral letter.
  5. Other non-CvSU clientele is allowed to use the L.Diwa every Thursdays only upon presentation of a valid ID from their respective institutions/offices where they are enrolled/employed together with a referral and payment of P30.00 as library fee.
  6. Readers are reminded that the library is primarily for serious study and research.

Borrowing Rights and Responsibilities

  1. CvSU graduate students may borrow a maximum of five (5) books (circulation) while undergraduate students may borrow a maximum of three (3) books (circulation) at a time.
  2. Books from the circulation section can be loaned for one (1) week and may be renewed for another week if not needed by other users.
  3. Reserved books are generally for ROOM USE ONLY.
  4. Reference books, periodicals, theses and dissertations are limited to ROOM USE ONLY and must be borrowed one at a time.
  5. Books for ROOM USE ONLY (only 1 copy each title) may be borrowed for photocopying but should be returned immediately.
  6. All materials borrowed must be returned on the date/time due.
  7. Theses/dissertations are for ROOM USE ONLY and any part of such could not be photocopied.

Orientation

The Library Personnel shall orient students and faculty members at the start of each school year on the collections, rules and regulations and the services that the unit offers.

Current Awareness

Bulletin boards are available for announcements, list of newly acquired books, delinquent borrowers and websites.

Library Users

  • Regular Users聽– all bonafide students, staff and faculty members of CvSU Main Campus
  • Extended Users聽– all bonafide students, staff and faculty members of CvSU Campuses as well as alumni; I.D. is required (library resources for Room Use Only)
  • Visitors聽– users, not from the CvSU System, who have referral letters from librarians or heads of offices where they are enrolled/employed.

  • Circulation Section鈥 consists of books used as textbooks and references in the different course offerings.
  • Filipiniana Section鈥 contains books and other materials on various subjects about the Philippines or any topic related to the Philippines regardless of author or format.
  • Reference Section鈥 consists of reference books for quick consultation purposes on specific topics of information like dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, handbooks, almanacs, directories, bibliographies and current sources like yearbooks and annuals.
  • Reserve Section – consist of books recommended by the students, faculty and employees of the University. Library materials in this section are available for a shorter loan period so that everyone can use them.
  • Theses Section- houses manuscripts of theses and dissertations submitted by CvSU students, faculty and employees appropriate for the research needs of the University.
  • Periodicals Section鈥 houses all local and foreign journals, magazines, and newspapers.
  • Multimedia Section 鈥 houses all books, periodicals, educational videos/movies, etc. in CD, DVD or Blu-ray format. Other services offered in this section include: a) computers for accessing information through the internet; c) computers for reading e-resources and watching videos; c) free wireless internet access to library users (Wi-Fi Lounge); d) printing and scanning services聽 e) Learning Commons; and f) Collaboration Area.

  • Acquisition Section鈥 handles the selection, ordering and procurement of books, periodicals, and other materials.
  • Cataloging Section鈥 takes care of the bibliographical description, accessioning, cataloging, classifying, and mechanical processing of the library materials.

C. Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)

Provides access to the collections of the library. Users search a library OPAC principally to locate books and other material available at a library. The CvSU Library Web OPAC is accessible 24/7 via

  • Library Information Literacy and User Education- to maximize the use of the library resources, facilities, and services to promote lifelong learning among University constituents and other library users, a continuing library information literacy and user education program shall be carried out. The following activities shall be done through: a) library orientation; b) library tours; c) virtual library orientation and reorientation program; d) preparation of users鈥 guides, brochures, handbooks, newsletters and other printed and online library instructional materials
  • Library Promotion and Current Awareness Services– the following activities shall be done to promote the library and update users on library information resources, facilities and services: a)Conduct of an intensive library instruction program (orientation and guided tours) for new library users at the start of every academic year; b)Preparation and distribution of the Bibliographic List of New Acquisitions/New Arrivals; c)聽Library Bulletin Board Displays (traditional, electronic and online bulletin board); d) 聽Posting of posters, tarpaulins of resources and announcements in strategic places; e)聽Organization of displays/exhibits of new acquisitions; f)聽Distribution of current contents of periodicals to concerned colleges or departments; g) Distribution of Library Brochures and User鈥檚 Guide; h) Distribution of Library Newsletters 鈥淒IWA鈥; and i) Social media marketing
  • Selective Dissemination of Information Services- Subject bibliography by program is made available for accreditation purposes. List of references upon students鈥 request is also made available.
  • Referral Services A referral letter is issued to a student/faculty member who wants to avail of the use of the library facilities and resources of other libraries which are not available at the University Library. The researcher is referred to the library of his/her choice. This service is extended upon request from the University Librarian.
  • Photocopying, Printing and Scanning Services- photocopier machine is available at the Reference and Reserve Section, 3rd Floor, while the printing and scanning services are available at the Multimedia Section, 4th Floor.
