Bachelor of Arts in Communication

Program Description 

BA Communication is a field of study that covers the various ways by which humans communicate. It focuses on how verbal and non-verbal messages are used to create meanings in different contexts using diverse media platforms. It includes a broad range of subject matter, ranging from the study of communication in interpersonal relationships, groups, organizations, and cultures.

The program aims to:

  1. equip students with the knowledge and skills in the theory and practice of communication applicable in various professions and contexts, with a focus on the media professions;
  2. uphold professional and ethical standards in communication while being sensitive to cultural diversity and social responsibility through exposure to industry or corporate exposure;
  3. conduct research to analyze communication issues, develop innovative solutions, and contribute to the body of knowledge in the field of communication, and 
  4. demonstrate mastery of communication theories, principles and practices applicable to various professions and contexts but are not limited to public and corporate communication/information officers, social science and communication researchers/analysts, communication/media planners and managers, program/project development officers, public relations and advertising practitioners, media practitioners, learning system designers, multimedia designers, and allied/related professions.

 

Bachelor of Science in Development Communication

Program Description 

Bachelor of Science in Development Communication is a field of study that covers the various ways by which humans communicate. It focuses on how verbal and non-verbal messages are used to create meanings in various media platforms. It includes a broad range of subject matter from communication, natural and social sciences, and other technical courses such as agriculture, health, and environment. This also includes the study of communication in interpersonal relationships, groups, organizations, and cultures.  

Objectives

The program aims to:

  1. equip students with the knowledge and skills needed in teaching, managing, and implementing communication programs for development;
  2. cultivate a critical understanding of development perspectives and the ability to analyze and address complex issues in communication for development;
  3. guide student-communicators who uphold ethical standards and practices in their professional endeavors through industry and corporate exposure; and 
  4. develop graduates who may find employment in, but not limited to public and corporate communication/information officers, social science and communication researchers/analysts, communication/media planners and managers, program/project development officers, media practitioners, learning system designers, multimedia designers, and in the allied/related professions.

 

Bachelor of Science in Biology

Program Description

The Biological Science Program for BS Biology students is designed to equip graduates with skills and knowledge in human resources that will enhance the progress of this agriculturally based country, depending on their specialization.  In the said program, the course curriculum is systematically given from first to fourth year levels, assuring that BS Biology students will be given all necessary subjects to be used once they are in the field. There are lots of private and government-owned and controlled corporations and research institutions that can readily make use of their knowledge in their chosen career. An increasing number of industries are now becoming allied to biological sciences, especially to the pharmaceutical, food, and scientific supply manufacturing.

Objectives

The program is structured to meet the needs of professional biologists who:

  1. can be employed in government/private institutions and other agencies where scientists with biological expertise are needed;
  2. can engage in entrepreneurial activities;
  3. conduct research in various areas in biology;
  4. undertake postgraduate education in Biology and allied fields; and
  5. pursue a career in teaching.

 

Bachelor of Arts in Journalism 

Program Description

Bachelor of Arts in Journalism covers the principles and techniques of reporting, writing, producing, and disseminating news in a range of forms, formats, and platforms in a democracy such as the Philippines. It focuses on timely events, issues, and developments relevant to the communities the journalist serves. This field of study promotes professional and ethical standards and includes reflection on best practices.

Objectives

The students in this program:

  1. are equipped with knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, ethics, and competence that professionals need;
  2. have the capacity to anticipate and respond to the needs of rapidly developing media; and
  3. may pursue the following career paths, but not limited to broadcast journalists, media researchers, news analysts, news organization representatives, public broadcasting agents, public relations practitioners, photojournalists, proofreaders, program directors, reporters, website developers, and writers.

 

Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies

Program Description

Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies offers courses that are designed to integrate theory and practice to prepare students for effective communication in English in diverse contexts and situations.

Objectives

 The program aims to:

  1. provide a comprehensive knowledge of the English language, its origin, growth and development, structures, and use;
  2. enhance the student’s competencies in the use of the English language in real-world contexts; and
  3. present appropriate strategies of language use through a heightened awareness of how English works in different situations in the Philippines, in Asia, and the rest of the world. 

 

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

Program Description

This program is designed to provide students with knowledge-based methods, content areas, and essential theories in the field of psychology. It seeks to facilitate the development of intellectual skills and characteristics that enhance the students’ lifelong personal and career success. The program begins with a General Psychology course and includes courses in quantitative methods and experimental designs. Additional coursework is selected from a broad range of available courses.  Students are encouraged to pursue breadth across the areas of Psychology, particularly when planning for advanced study in Psychology. The department does, however, identify sets of courses particularly relevant for students interested in clinical, school, or industrial/ organizational psychology.

Objectives

 The program aims to:

  1. produce graduates who can apply psychological principles in analyzing structures of society;
  2. systematically equip students with a foundation of theories and practice for real-life activities, research, and extension services;
  3. yield critical thinkers and creative workers for professional global competitiveness in educational, industrial, and clinical settings;
  4. cultivate professionally competent, morally upright, and socially responsible individuals exposed to various psychological situations; and
  5. hone future psychometricians, psychologists, counselors, human resource managers, educators, and other psychological-helping professionals able to respond to the demands of a growing society.

 

Bachelor of Arts in Political Science

Program Description

Political Science, as a discipline, delves into multifarious and intricate activities of man as well as political, economic, social, and cultural processes. Students are trained for careers in politics, law, teaching, civil service, and foreign service. Furthermore, students are equipped with knowledge and skills in discharging their rights and obligations as members of a democratic community, to prepare them to be vigilant, dynamic, and civic-spirited citizens.

The program aims to:

  1. compare, contrast, and classify the major concepts in the discipline;
  2. recognize and define the distinctiveness of the discipline, its subfields, theories, and methods;
  3. design and execute research inquiries using appropriate quantitative and qualitative methods guided by the theories or conceptual framework;
  4. demonstrate written, visual, and oral presentation skills to produce and present analytic reports;
  5. critique, judge, and response to current issues and problems based on a substantive understanding of the historical and contemporary developments in the national and global context; and
  6. develop a predisposition towards ethical political involvement and practice in various forms and on different levels of engagement.

 

Bachelor of Science in Social Work

Program Description

The Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) program of ÿÈÕ´óÈüÍøÖ·Ê×Ò³½øÈë is in accordance with CMO No. 39 s. 2017.  The social work program prepares students for professional entry-level social work practice.  It is geared towards the preparation of students for generalist social work practice. Professional education in social work requires the acquisition and application of a beginning level of knowledge, attitudes, values, and skills in enhancing the social functioning of individuals, families, groups and communities, linking people (client systems) with needed resources, improving the operation of social service delivery networks, and promoting social justice through organizing and advocacy.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of the program, its graduates are expected to:

  1. pass the board exam for social workers;
  2. be equipped with knowledge, attitudes, values, and skills necessary for a beginning professional generalist practitioner in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities;
  3. promote biological, psychological, social, and spiritual growth and development and people empowerment through various social activities;
  4. develop partnerships nationally and internationally with government and non-government agencies, and/or enhance the college’s existing resources and services; and
  5. be globally competitive and morally upright individuals responsive to the needs and demands of society.

 

Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics

Program Description

The curriculum for the BS Applied Mathematics is built around a traditional base of foundational or core courses in the major areas of mathematics and applied mathematics with the inclusion of specialized courses in mathematics, applied mathematics, relevant disciplines, and emerging areas.

Objectives

The program aims to:

  1. Provide the students with a curriculum that shall enhance their mathematical and critical thinking skills, and develop in them a greater appreciation and understanding of the importance of mathematics in history and in the modern world;
  2. Prepare the students for advanced studies in mathematics, applied mathematics, and related fields;
  3. Train students and develop them to become competent and well-equipped instructors to teach mathematics and statistics in college;
  4. Prepare students for mathematics-oriented careers in industry, business, and public administration;
  5. Guide students in conducting scientific researches relevant to the thrusts of the Department, College, and the University; and
  6. Encourage students to render extension services to the stakeholders in line with the program.
