This leadership position is rooted in its successful management of the nation’s inaugural integrated research program for coffee, a program mandated by the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act of 1997. This pioneering effort laid the groundwork for CvSU’s continued prominence in the sector.听
A significant milestone in CvSU’s journey was the establishment of the National Coffee Research, Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC) in 2005. The creation of NCRDEC, formalized through CvSU Board Resolution Number 77 Series of 2004, was a strategic move to directly address the requirements of coffee industry stakeholders and to actively promote the expansion of the Philippine coffee sector.听
Since its inception, NCRDEC has played a crucial role in advancing the coffee industry through various initiatives. The Center actively conducts research to improve coffee cultivation and quality, offers essential training and technical support to farmers and other stakeholders, and produces high-quality coffee planting materials to enhance productivity.
The impact of NCRDEC’s work has been substantial, reaching thousands of individuals involved in the coffee value chain. Through its ongoing dedication to research, extension, and the provision of quality resources, NCRDEC continues to work towards the ambitious goal of restoring the Philippines to a prominent position in the international coffee market.
